The Herefordshire Directors Forum is a model that goes from strength to strength and brings directors from growing SMEs together in a strategic monthly development workshop where they can also network with and learn from each other.  Everyone at the top needs support and direction and this is a very productive way to achieve that.

2012 sees 6 groups of directors that are working and learning on a monthly basis, and most importantly, doing business together. The autumn will see the development of a seventh group – why not build it in to your route to continued success.

The concept of ‘localisation’ is becoming central to many business models; As a leading keynote speaker in the region, I am increasingly being asked to speak on this topic.

The HDF Continuity Programme

More than fifty local company directors have attended the ten month Herefordshire Directors’ Forum (HDF). Once the initial programme ended, we responded to demand for continued support and set up the Continuity Programme, where we meet quarterly and have supper at one of the delegate’s premises while learning about their business.

The format for the sessions is similar to the original HDF but we have a theme for the evening based upon an aspect of the host’s business, and sometimes have an independent guest speaker where appropriate. As our thanks to the host we produce an interview video blog afterwards.

Speaking

Having your 60 seconds or speaking at breakfast meetings can be an excellent source of new business providing you know who you want to meet and that the meetings are run professionally. Two of the best for 2012 in the Herefordshire area are those run by Janet Peacock on the last Wednesday of each month, and those run by Colita Dainton on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce.

Being a motivational speaker about your own company will engage people to do business with you. You don’t have to be an amazing public speaker, simply speak knowledgeably, sincerely and clearly about what you do and why, and always remember to give a reason as to why this is of benefit to your prospective customers.
